Born Vincenzo Colosimo on 11 November 1966 in Melbourne, he is of Italian descent. He made his screen debut in the feature film *Moving Out* (1983) and appeared in *Street Hero* (1984). He trained at the Victorian College of the Arts. Colosimo gained wider recognition for his role as Neville Bartos in *Chopper* (2000).
