She made her screen debut in an uncredited role as a lady-in-waiting in the 1929 musical *The Love Parade*. She appeared on Broadway in the musicals *Smiles* (1930) and *America's Sweetheart* (1931) before returning to Hollywood. Bruce is known for roles in *The Great Ziegfeld* (1936), in which she introduced the Cole Porter song "I've Got You Under My Skin" in *Born to Dance* (1936), *The Invisible Woman* (1940) and *Night Has a Thousand Eyes* (1948). She also appeared in *Strangers When We Meet* (1960). She performed on radio, including the CBS series *Make Believe Town* in 1949. Bruce was married to actors and directors John Gilbert, J.
