## Biography

Virginia Gilmore (born Sherman Virginia Poole) was an American actress who worked in film, stage and television. She began her stage career in San Francisco at the age of 15 and moved to Los Angeles in 1939 to pursue film roles, securing a contract with Samuel Goldwyn after approaching him directly.

Her film credits include *Western Union* (1941), *Swamp Water* (1941), *The Pride of the Yankees* (1942) as Myra Tinsley, and *Wonder Man* (1945). She made her Broadway debut in 1943 and appeared in productions including *Dear Ruth* (1944). Gilmore was married to actor Yul Brynner from 1944 to 1960. She later taught drama at Yale University from 1966 to 1968 and died in Santa Barbara, California, in 1986.
