## Biography

Virginia Van Upp (13 January 1902 – 25 March 1970) was an American screenwriter and film producer. She began her career as a child actress in silent films and later worked as a script reader, editor, casting director and agent before becoming a screenwriter at Paramount Pictures in the 1930s.

She joined Columbia Pictures in 1943 and rose to become associate producer and then executive producer under Harry Cohn in 1945, one of the few women to hold such a studio executive position at the time. Her credits include the screenplay for *Cover Girl* (1944) and producing *Gilda* (1946), which she co-wrote and supervised. She also contributed the story for *Affair in Trinidad* (1952) and wrote or produced several other Columbia films, including *She Wouldn't Say Yes* (1945) and *Together Again* (1944).

Van Upp returned to Columbia for *Affair in Trinidad* after a period away from the studio. She was married twice and had one daughter.
