Vsevolod Illarionovich Pudovkin was a Soviet film director, screenwriter and actor. He was born on 16 February 1893 in Penza, Russian Empire, and died on 30 June 1953.

Pudovkin directed *Chess Fever* (1925), *Mother* (1926), *The End of St. Petersburg* (1927) and *Storm Over Asia* (1928). He also acted in several films, including the role of Nikolay the Fanatic in *Ivan the Terrible, Part II: The Boyars' Plot* (1958). He was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1948.
