## Biography

W.C. Fields was an American actor and screenwriter, born William Claude Dukenfield on 29 January 1880 in Darby, Pennsylvania. He began his career in vaudeville as a juggler and comedian, appearing in the Ziegfeld Follies from 1915 to 1921 before transitioning to film.

Fields is known for his comic roles in sound films, including Harold Bissonette in *It's a Gift* (1934), for which he also contributed the story under the pseudonym Charles Bogle. Other notable credits include Wilkins Micawber in *David Copperfield* (1935), the title role and screenplay in *The Bank Dick* (1940), and Egbert Sousé in the same film. He died on 25 December 1946 in Pasadena, California.
