## Biography

Wallas Eaton (sometimes credited as Wallace Eaton or Wallis Eaton) was an English actor who worked in film, radio, television and theatre. Born in Leicester on 18 February 1917, he was educated at Alderman Newton School and Christ's College, Cambridge, before serving as a major in the British Army during the Second World War.

He is best known for his voice roles in the BBC radio comedy series *Take It from Here* (1949–1960). Eaton appeared in more than twenty-five films, including *Caesar and Cleopatra* (1945), *This Sporting Life* (1963), *Inspector Clouseau* (1968), *O Lucky Man!* (1973) and *The Last Wave* (1977) as the Morgue Doctor. He also had roles in over fifty television productions, among them *Up Pompeii!* and *The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes*.

Eaton's favourite pastime was sailing. He visited Australia in 1975 and settled there permanently, later appearing in Australian productions including the soap *The Young Doctors* (1979) as Roland Perry and episodes of *A Country Practice*. He died in Australia on 3 November 1995.
