## Biography

Wally Cassell was an Italian-born American character actor. Born Oswaldo Silvestri Trippilini Rolando Vicenza Castellano on 3 March 1912 in Agrigento, Sicily, he moved to the United States with his family as a child. He began his film career in the early 1940s in small and uncredited roles, later appearing under contract to MGM.

Cassell is known for supporting parts in several film noirs and war films, including *The Postman Always Rings Twice* (1946), *Story of G.I. Joe* (1945), *Sands of Iwo Jima* (1949) and *White Heat* (1949), in which he played 'Cotton' Valletti. He also worked in television on series such as *Gunsmoke* and *The Beverly Hillbillies*. He retired from acting in the mid-1960s and became a businessman.

Cassell was married to actress and singer Marcy McGuire from 1947 until his death on 2 April 2015 in Palm Desert, California.
