## Biography

Wally Vernon, also credited as Walter J. Vernon, was an American comic and character actor and dancer. Born in New York City, he began performing in vaudeville and stock theatre from the age of three and made his first Hollywood appearance in *Mountain Music* (1937).

He appeared in more than 75 films, frequently playing wiseguy or sidekick roles, and was a regular in Twentieth Century Fox features of the late 1930s and early 1940s. Vernon is seen as an eccentric dancer in *Alexander's Ragtime Band* (1938), appearing as himself. He later became the sidekick to cowboy star Don "Red" Barry at Republic Pictures and featured in a series of Columbia shorts with Eddie Quillan. His later credits include *What a Way to Go!* (1964).

Vernon also worked in television, appearing in series such as *Damon Runyon Theater* and *Bat Masterson*. He died in Hollywood, California, in 1970 after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
