Walter Cronkite was an American broadcast journalist. He served as anchorman for the CBS Evening News from 1962 to 1981.

Cronkite reported on major events including the Second World War, the Nuremberg trials, the Vietnam War, the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and the Watergate scandal. He provided extensive coverage of the US space programme, from Project Mercury through the Apollo missions. He was known for his closing phrase, 'And that's the way it is.'
