## Biography

Walter Kingsford (born Walter Pearce) was a British stage, film and television actor. He began his career on the London stage and had a long Broadway career, appearing in productions from the 1912 American premiere of George Bernard Shaw's Fanny's First Play to Song of Norway in 1944. In the early 1920s he performed with the Henry Jewett Players.

Kingsford moved to Hollywood and appeared in numerous supporting film roles from the 1930s onward, often as authority figures including doctors, officials and noblemen. He is noted for his recurring role as hospital administrator Dr. P. Walter Carew in the Dr. Kildare and Dr. Gillespie film series. His credits include Don Carlos in Naughty Marietta (1935), Dr. Finley in Captains Courageous (1937), Colonel Sandherr in The Life of Emile Zola (1937) and an uncredited role in Around the World in 80 Days (1956). He also made numerous television appearances in the 1950s, including episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Science Fiction Theatre.
