## Biography

Walter Lima Jr. is a Brazilian film director and screenwriter. Born on 26 November 1938 in Niterói, he graduated in law from the Fluminense Federal University before beginning his career as a newspaper film critic. In 1963 he met Glauber Rocha and contributed to the screenplay of *Black God, White Devil* (1964), also serving as assistant director.

His directorial debut was *Menino de Engenho* (1965). He has directed seventeen films since then, including *Brasil Ano 2000* (1969), which won a Silver Bear at the 19th Berlin International Film Festival, *A Lira do Delírio* (1978) and *A Ostra e o Vento* (1997). He has also directed documentaries for Brazilian television.
