Walter Murphy is an American composer, arranger and pianist. Born in New York City on 19 December 1952, he studied composition at the Manhattan School of Music.

He is best known for the 1976 disco hit "A Fifth of Beethoven" and for his long collaboration with Seth MacFarlane, composing music and the main theme for the animated series *Family Guy* (1999–present) as well as scores for *Ted* (2012) and *Ted 2* (2015). Murphy won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for the song "You've Got a Lot to See" from *Family Guy*.
