Walter A. Thompson (8 May 1903 – 17 December 1975) was an American film editor. Born in Indiana, he began his career in 1930 and accumulated 69 film credits over four decades until his death in Los Angeles.

Thompson received Academy Award nominations for Best Film Editing for *This Above All* (1942) and *The Nun's Story* (1959). He was also nominated for an ACE Eddie Award for *The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm* (1962). His credits include *Young Mr. Lincoln* (1939), *Jane Eyre* (1943), *Pitfall* (1948), *Fat City* (1972), *The Paper Chase* (1973) and *Farewell, My Lovely* (1975), the latter shared with Joel Cox. He was married to Vera Peterson.
