## Biography

Walter Wanger (1894–1968) was an American film producer. Born in San Francisco, he attended Dartmouth College and served as an aviation pilot in the US Army during the First World War. He began working in the film industry at Paramount Pictures in the early 1920s, later holding production roles at several major studios and forming his own independent company.

Wanger produced or executive-produced numerous films, including *Queen Christina* (1934), *You Only Live Once* (1937), *Stagecoach* (1939), *Foreign Correspondent* (1940), *Scarlet Street* (1945), *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* (1956) and *I Want to Live!* (1958). He served as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1939 to 1941 and again from 1941 to 1945. His final film was *Cleopatra* (1963). He died in New York City.
