## Biography

Walter Wottitz (22 June 1912 – 1 November 1986) was a French cinematographer. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, he began his career in the late 1930s, initially working as a camera assistant and operator before becoming a director of photography.

He is best known for his work on *The Longest Day* (1962), for which he shared the Academy Award for Best Cinematography (Black-and-White) with Jean Bourgoin. Other notable credits include *The Train* (1964), *Army of Shadows* (1969), *The Widow Couderc* (1971) and *Un flic* (1972). He frequently collaborated with directors Pierre Granier-Deferre and Jean-Pierre Melville, and contributed to several international productions shot in France.
