## Biography

Waris Islam is a writer and director working in film, television and radio.

He began his career writing for the BBC Radio drama series *Silver Street* and directing short films including *Short* (2004) and *The Family Portrait* (2004). He directed episodes of *Bishaash* (2010–2011), *Hollyoaks* (2007–2008), *EastEnders* (2016–2019), *Holby City* (2019–2020), *Vera* (2022), *The Bay* (2024) and *Emmerdale* (2024–2025), and served as second unit director on *Outlander*.

Islam holds a BA in Film Studies and MAs in Screen Arts and Screenwriting. He is a member of BAFTA, Directors UK and the Royal Television Society.
