## Biography

Wilfred Babbage (2 May 1900 – 15 September 1984) was an English actor born in Bridgwater, Somerset. He appeared in a small uncredited role as the Policeman at War Memorial in David Lean’s *Brief Encounter* (1945).

His other screen credits include Major Gayne in *Old Mother Riley’s New Venture* (1949), the Judge in *School for Sex* (1969) and the Butler in *The Tales of Beatrix Potter* (1971). On television he played Det. Sgt. Quimby in the series *The Six Proud Walkers* (1954 and 1962) and Mr Wilkins in *Jennings at School* (1958). Babbage also worked extensively in the theatre, including with the Sir Ben Greet Players and at the Bristol Old Vic.
