## Biography

Wilkie Cooper (19 October 1911 – 15 December 2001) was a British cinematographer. The son of silent-era cinematographer Douglas Percival Cooper, he began his career as a camera assistant at Denham Studios before becoming a director of photography in the 1940s at Ealing Studios.

He photographed several films for Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat, including *Green for Danger* (1946) and *London Belongs to Me* (1948), and worked with Alfred Hitchcock on *Stage Fright* (1950). From the late 1950s he collaborated with special-effects artist Ray Harryhausen on *The 7th Voyage of Sinbad* (1958), *Jason and the Argonauts* (1963), *First Men in the Moon* (1964) and other fantasy productions. He also contributed to five episodes of the television series *The Avengers* (1961). Cooper retired in 1972.
