## Biography

William Collier Jr. (born Charles F. Gall Jr.) was an American stage and film actor. He was born in New York City on 12 February 1902. After his parents divorced, his mother, the actress Paula Marr, married actor William Collier Sr., who adopted him and gave him his professional name.

Collier first appeared on stage at the age of seven and made his film debut at 14 in *The Bugle Call* (1916). He became a leading man in the 1920s and appeared in around 89 films, including *Little Caesar* (1931) as Tony Passa, *Cimarron* (1931) and *Street Scene* (1931). He retired from acting in 1935, later worked as a producer in England from 1937, and produced television drama series in the United States from the late 1940s. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 and died on 5 February 1987.
