## Biography

William E. Snyder (also credited as William Snyder) was an American cinematographer. Born in New York in 1901, he became a member of the American Society of Cinematographers in 1933 and worked on more than sixty feature films and numerous television productions over four decades.

He received Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography for *Aloma of the South Seas* (1941), *The Loves of Carmen* (1948) and *Jolson Sings Again* (1949). Among his best-known credits are *Creature from the Black Lagoon* (1954), *Beyond a Reasonable Doubt* (1956), *The Conqueror* (1956), *Flying Leathernecks* (1951) and *Summer Magic* (1963). He also served as director of photography on the original *Star Trek* pilot 'The Cage' (filmed 1964, aired as part of the 1966 series) and related episodes.

Later in his career Snyder worked extensively for Walt Disney Productions, including *The Million Dollar Duck* (1971). He died in California in 1984.
