## Biography

William Froug was an American television writer and producer. He began his career in radio before moving into television in the mid-1950s. He served as producer on series including *The Twilight Zone* (1959), *Gilligan's Island*, *Bewitched* and *Sam Benedict*.

As a writer he contributed episodes to *Charlie's Angels*, *Quincy, M.E.*, *The Dick Powell Show* and *Adventures in Paradise*, among more than 200 scripts. He won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Producers Guild of America award for the 1958 Alcoa-Goodyear Theatre production *Eddie*, and received further Emmy and PGA nominations for work on *Bewitched*, *Playhouse 90*, *Mr. Novak* and *The Twilight Zone*.

Froug later taught screenwriting at the University of Southern California and UCLA, where he helped shape the screenwriting programme. He authored several books on the subject, including *The Screenwriter Looks at the Screenwriter* and *Screenwriting Tricks of the Trade*.
