## Biography

William Goodhart was an American playwright and screenwriter. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1925, he achieved success on Broadway with his comedy *Generation*, which opened in 1965, was directed by Gene Saks and starred Henry Fonda.

Goodhart adapted the play for the screen as *Generation* (1969). He later wrote the screenplay for the film *Exorcist II: The Heretic* (1977), directed by John Boorman. His other screen credit is the 1980 film *Cloud Dancer*.

Goodhart died in Shelter Island, New York, in 1999.
