## Biography

William Ludwig was an American screenwriter. He wrote the screenplay for the 1955 film *Oklahoma!*, alongside Sonya Levien.

Ludwig graduated from Columbia University in 1932. He joined MGM in 1937 and remained a contract writer there for twenty years. With Levien, he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for *Interrupted Melody* (1955). Other credits include *The Great Caruso* (1951) and *Hit the Deck* (1955).

He died on 7 February 1999.
