## Biography

William Marshall was an American actor, singer, bandleader and film director. Born in Chicago, he began as a vocalist with Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians before forming his own band in 1937. He moved to Hollywood in 1940 and appeared in films including *Santa Fe Trail* (1940) and *State Fair* (1945), in which he played Tommy Thomas.

Marshall later directed *The Phantom Planet* (1961) and other features. He worked as a producer and continued in the industry until the 1960s.
