## Biography

William Talman was an American actor born William Whitney Talman Jr. on 4 February 1915 in Detroit, Michigan. He appeared on Broadway in productions including *Beverly Hills* and *Spring Again*, and toured in road companies of *Yokel Boy* and *Of Mice and Men* before beginning his screen career in the late 1940s.

He is best known for playing Los Angeles District Attorney Hamilton Burger in the CBS series *Perry Mason* (1957–1966). His film roles include Dave Purvis in *Armored Car Robbery* (1950), Officer Bob Johnson in *The Racket* (1951), Emmett Myers in *The Hitch-Hiker* (1953) and appearances in *One Minute to Zero* (1952) and *Big House, U.S.A.* (1955). He also guest-starred in series such as *Gunsmoke*, *Have Gun – Will Travel* and *The Wild Wild West*.

Talman died of lung cancer in Encino, California, on 30 August 1968.
