## Biography

Willis Goldbeck (24 October 1898 – 17 September 1979) was an American screenwriter, film director and producer. Born in New York City, he worked as a journalist before entering the film industry as a screenwriter in the early 1920s. He wrote for more than 40 films between 1923 and 1962.

Goldbeck is credited with the screenplay for *Freaks* (1932). At MGM he wrote most of the Dr. Kildare series, beginning with *Young Dr. Kildare* (1938), and directed several entries in the series and its spin-offs. He also directed other films, including *Ten Tall Men* (1951), and in the mid-1950s turned to producing. He served as writer and producer on *The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance* (1962), after which he retired from films.

Goldbeck graduated from Worcester Academy. He died in Sag Harbor, New York.
