## Biography

Winston Miller (22 June 1910 – 21 June 1994) was an American screenwriter, film producer and actor. Born in Saint Louis, Missouri, he began his career as a juvenile actor in silent films and attended Princeton University. He started screenwriting in 1937 at Republic Pictures and later assisted on the screenplay for Gone with the Wind (1939). He served in the US Marines during the Second World War.

Miller wrote the screenplay for My Darling Clementine (1946), directed by John Ford. He contributed to numerous Western films in the 1940s and 1950s, including Station West (1948) and Run for Cover (1955). From the mid-1950s he wrote for television series such as Gunsmoke (1955) and Rawhide (1959–1962). In 1960 he joined Universal Studios as a television producer, working on series including The Virginian, Ironside and Cannon (1971–1975). He was the brother of silent-film actress Patsy Ruth Miller.
