## Biography

Wolf Hart (born Wolfgang Gustaf Adalbert Hart) was a German cinematographer, director, screenwriter and producer of documentaries and cultural films. Born on 13 June 1911 in Meiningen, he studied history, art history, geography and sport at the University of Freiburg before being expelled in 1933 following anti-Nazi student activities.

He entered film as an assistant to cameraman Sepp Allgeier, working on *Triumph des Willens* (1935) and *Ewiger Wald* (1936). Hart served as one of the cinematographers on Leni Riefenstahl’s *Olympia* (1938), including *Olympia Part One: Festival of the Nations*. From 1938 he directed numerous short documentaries, often also handling camera, script and production duties for companies including Tobis and UFA.

After the war he founded Hart-Film in Freiburg (later Hamburg) and continued making cultural and industrial films into the 1970s. His work received several awards, including a Filmband in Gold in 1981 for his contributions to German film. Hart retired in 1988 and died on 5 July 2002 in Fischbachau.
