## Biography

Wolf Mankowitz was an English writer, playwright and screenwriter. Born Cyril Wolf Mankowitz on 7 November 1924 in the East End of London, he was educated at East Ham Grammar School and Downing College, Cambridge.

He published several novels in the 1950s, including *Make Me an Offer* (1952) and *A Kid for Two Farthings* (1953), and wrote the book for the musical *Expresso Bongo* (1958). His screenplays include *The Day the Earth Caught Fire* (1961), *The Millionairess* (1960) and *Casino Royale* (1967). He also contributed to the script for *Dr. No* (1962) without credit.

Mankowitz died on 20 May 1998 in County Cork, Ireland.
