## Biography

Wolfgang Thaler is an Austrian cinematographer and director. Born in Möllbrücke in 1958, he initially studied agriculture in Vienna before training in cinematography at the Film Academy Vienna. He has worked as a freelance cinematographer and documentary director since 1988 and has taught cinematography at the Film Academy Vienna since 2008.

Thaler is known for long-standing collaborations with directors Michael Glawogger and Ulrich Seidl. His credits as director of photography include *Workingman's Death* (2005), *Import/Export* (2007), the Paradise trilogy (2012–2013), *Theeb* (2014), *Stefan Zweig: Farewell to Europe* (2016) and the Netflix series *Unorthodox* (2020). He has received several awards, including the Austrian Romy for best cinematography in 1999 and the Austrian Film Award for *Whores' Glory* (2011).
