## Biography

Woody Kling (born Heywood Fisher Kling) was an American television writer, producer, playwright and composer. He began his career in the 1940s writing sketches and jokes for variety shows, including Milton Berle’s Texaco Star Theater, for which he also composed the theme song.

In the 1970s he served as head writer on The Carol Burnett Show, winning two Primetime Emmy Awards for his work there. He later wrote for and served as executive producer on All in the Family (1971), and contributed to other Norman Lear series including Maude and Diff'rent Strokes (1978). Kling also created and produced animated series such as Casper the Friendly Ghost, The Beatles and Rainbow Brite.

He received five Emmy nominations in total and died in Los Angeles on 10 April 1988.
