## Biography

Yan Tax is a Dutch costume designer who has worked in film, television and theatre since the 1970s. He studied fashion design in Breda.

Tax is known for his film work on *Spetters* (1980), *Daens* (1992), *The Eighth Day* (1996) and *Black Book* (2006). He has also designed costumes for numerous opera productions, including long-running collaborations with director Harry Kupfer and designer Hans Schavernoch at houses in Berlin, Vienna and Salzburg.

He received a Tony Award nomination for Best Costume Design for the 1993 Broadway musical *Cyrano* and was nominated for the German Film Prize for his work on *Black Book*.
