## Biography

Yoshio Shirasaka was a Japanese screenwriter. Born Toshiyoshi Yasumi on 1 September 1932 in Tokyo, he was the son of screenwriter Toshio Yasumi. He died on 2 January 2015 in Setagaya, Tokyo.

Shirasaka began working as a screenwriter in the late 1950s. He maintained a long collaboration with director Yasuzo Masumura, contributing screenplays to films including *Giants and Toys* (1958) and *Blind Beast* (1969). He also wrote for other directors across drama, satire and other genres.

In 1965 Shirasaka was one of the writers on the documentary *Tokyo Olympiad*, directed by Kon Ichikawa. His credits extend into the 1980s, with additional work in television.
