## Biography

Yumeji Tsukioka was a Japanese film actress. Born Akiko Hinotsume on 14 October 1922 in Hiroshima, she appeared in more than 150 films between 1940 and 1994.

She is known for her roles as Aya Kitagawa in Yasujirō Ozu’s *Late Spring* (1949) and as Masuno in *Twenty-Four Eyes* (1954). Other credits include *The Temptress and the Monk* (1958), which was entered into the 8th Berlin International Film Festival.

Tsukioka was married to the director Umetsugu Inoue from 1957 until his death in 2010. She died on 3 May 2017 in Tokyo.
