## Biography

Yuri Raksha (born Yuri Mefodievich Terebilov) was a Soviet production designer and painter. He trained at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) and worked for fifteen years as a production designer at Mosfilm.

Raksha is best known for his production design on Akira Kurosawa’s *Dersu Uzala* (1975) and Larisa Shepitko’s *The Ascent* (1977). He also contributed to earlier films, sometimes credited as Yu. Terebilov, and maintained a parallel career as a painter whose works are held in Russian galleries.

Born in Ufa in 1937, Raksha died in Moscow in 1980 at the age of 42.
