Zachary Scott was an American actor. Born in Austin, Texas, he attended the University of Texas at Austin before pursuing a stage career. He made his Broadway debut in 1941 and was spotted by Jack L. Warner in a 1943 production, leading to a film contract.

Scott's screen debut came in *The Mask of Dimitrios* (1944). He appeared in *The Southerner* (1945) and played Monte Beragon in *Mildred Pierce* (1945). Other credits include *Flamingo Road* (1949), *Born to Be Bad* (1950) and *The Young One* (1960). He was married to actress Ruth Ford from 1952 until his death in Austin on 3 October 1965.
