Born on 28 December 1923 in Choltice, he worked in regional theatres from the mid-1940s, including the Jihočeské divadlo in České Budějovice, before joining Divadlo S. K. Neumanna in Prague in 1957, where he remained until his death. He appeared in numerous Czechoslovak films and television productions from the late 1950s onwards, often in supporting roles.
