Zoe Swicord Kazan is an American actress, screenwriter and playwright. Born on 9 September 1983 in Los Angeles, she graduated from Yale University with a degree in theatre in 2005. She made her screen debut in 2003 and has appeared in films including *Revolutionary Road* (2008), *It's Complicated* (2009), *Ruby Sparks* (2012), *The Big Sick* (2017) and *The Ballad of Buster Scruggs* (2018). She played Millie Gately in *Meek's Cutoff* (2011).

Kazan wrote the screenplay for *Ruby Sparks* (2012), in which she also starred, and co-wrote *Wildlife* (2018) with her partner, actor and director Paul Dano. She created, wrote and served as showrunner on the Netflix limited series *East of Eden* (2026), adapted from the John Steinbeck novel. Her grandfather was the director Elia Kazan.

She has performed in several Broadway productions, including revivals of *Come Back, Little Sheba* (2008) and *Doubt: A Parable* (2024).
