# Comedy series

A comedy series has to be funny on the first evening and still funny on the fortieth, which few dramas are asked to manage. What we are scoring is whether the jokes come out of the people or are handed to them, and whether the writers know when to stop. Most of what we hold is from the last two decades, and a good deal of it is comedy with something else attached: grief, politics, a spaceship. The best of it does not need the extra.

Start with [BoJack Horseman](/tv/bojack-horseman), 91, a cartoon about a washed-up horse actor that turns into as honest an account of depression as comedy has managed; stay past the first six episodes. [The Larry Sanders Show](/tv/the-larry-sanders-show), also 91, is the one we would hand to almost anyone. [Fleabag](/tv/fleabag), 90, is two short series, the second as good as half-hour television gets. After those, [Fawlty Towers](/tv/fawlty-towers) and [Father Ted](/tv/father-ted) still hold up.

For US. 222 titles; 60 listed here. Add `?region=XX` for another country.

- [*Youth*](https://film.one/tv/youth.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 76 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama
Sharon Horgan turns the menopause into a comedy of bad decisions and has the nerve to play it without asking for sympathy. It is funny, honest about the body and slighter about the heart, and it is best when she is on screen, which is most of the time.
- [*Stuart Fails to Save the Universe*](https://film.one/tv/stuart-fails-to-save-the-universe.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 57 · TV-MA · 24m · Comedy/Sci-Fi & Fantasy · on HBO Max
The Big Bang Theory’s background players get their own multiverse, and the idea is better than the jokes. Kevin Sussman and Brian Posehn are good company for ten short episodes; the writing keeps reaching for a reference when it needs a laugh.
- [*Alice and Steve*](https://film.one/tv/alice-and-steve.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 72 · Comedy/Drama · on Disney+, Hulu
Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement make this friendship feud worth following, even when the revenge grows busy. The writing gives Walker’s anger more attention than the younger woman whose relationship has set it off.
- [*Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed*](https://film.one/tv/maximum-pleasure-guaranteed.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 74 · TV-MA · Comedy · on Apple TV
Tatiana Maslany gives this comic thriller warmth and a reason to keep watching. Its brisk succession of crises makes good entertainment, though an overcomplicated mystery sometimes gets in the way of a more interesting woman.
- [*Widow's Bay*](https://film.one/tv/widows-bay.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 80 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Apple TV
*Widow’s Bay* is a funny, unsettling island mystery with an ensemble worth caring about, especially Matthew Rhys and Kate O’Flynn. We recommend it, with a caveat: its supernatural rules sometimes demand more attention than they deserve.
- [*Margo's Got Money Troubles*](https://film.one/tv/margos-got-money-troubles.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 80 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Apple TV
*Margo’s Got Money Troubles* is a warm, funny family comedy with an unusually sensible attitude to sex work. Elle Fanning makes it worth following, even when the heavier drama starts asking for too much attention.
- [*Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair*](https://film.one/tv/malcolm-in-the-middle-lifes-still-unfair.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 71 · TV-14 · Comedy/Drama · on Hulu
Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek make this uneven family reunion worth watching. The four-episode run is crowded, and Malcolm spends too much of it explaining what his childhood has done to him.
- [*Bait*](https://film.one/tv/bait-2026.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 81 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Amazon Prime Video
Riz Ahmed makes *Bait* a funny, uneasy comedy about an actor trying to win a job and please far too many people. Its family scenes cut deepest; some supporting characters deserve more attention.
- [*The Other Bennet Sister*](https://film.one/tv/the-other-bennet-sister.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 78 · 30m · Drama/Comedy · on Amazon Prime Video, BritBox
Ella Bruccoleri makes Mary Bennet worth following in this warm, uneven period drama. The sympathy is earned by her performance, though the writing sometimes makes her family crudely unpleasant to help us along.
- [*Rooster*](https://film.one/tv/rooster.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 57 · TV-MA · Comedy · on HBO Max
Steve Carell is appealingly awkward in *Rooster*, and the cast give him good company. But familiar jokes and an underwritten father-daughter relationship make this campus comedy difficult to recommend beyond its leading man.
- [*R.J. Decker*](https://film.one/tv/r-j-decker.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 67 · TV-14 · Drama/Comedy · on Hulu
Early reviews suggest an amiable crime procedural whose supporting characters compensate for familiar plotting. We cannot yet offer an independent viewing verdict; the provisional score reflects those reviews.
- [*DTF St. Louis*](https://film.one/tv/dtf-st-louis.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 78 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama · on HBO Max
Steven Conrad’s suburban murder mystery is worth watching for its awkward friendships and the warmth of David Harbour’s performance. The investigation is less compelling, and the pace sometimes slackens, but the comedy has enough bite to keep us interested.
- [*How to Get to Heaven from Belfast*](https://film.one/tv/how-to-get-to-heaven-from-belfast.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 78 · TV-MA · Mystery/Comedy · on Netflix
Lisa McGee’s mystery-comedy earns our time through three convincing friends and a welcome lack of dignity. The plotting wanders and some silliness feels compulsory, but the company is good enough to keep us watching.
- [*Small Prophets*](https://film.one/tv/small-prophets.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 84 · Comedy/Drama
Mackenzie Crook’s suburban comedy finds feeling in folk magic and ordinary friendship. Pearce Quigley and Lauren Patel give it warmth without fuss, though the fondness for everyone’s peculiarities sometimes makes it a little too comfortable.
- [*Wonder Man*](https://film.one/tv/wonder-man.md) — 2026 · Fi1m 82 · TV-14 · Comedy/Drama · on Disney+, Hulu
*Wonder Man* is a warm, funny showbusiness comedy whose chief pleasure is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley’s rapport. The industry satire could be sharper, but the series gives its actors enough space to make us care.
- [*I Love LA*](https://film.one/tv/i-love-la.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 68 · TV-MA · Comedy · on HBO Max
Rachel Sennott’s comedy about ambition and friendship in Los Angeles starts too loud and too busy, then settles into something sharp and unexpectedly kind. The satire is thin but the company is good, and Odessa A’zion is a find.
- [*The Chair Company*](https://film.one/tv/the-chair-company.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 80 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama · on HBO Max
Tim Robinson takes a broken office chair personally in this funny, unsettling comedy. Some scenes prolong the embarrassment beyond the joke, but his performance and a strong supporting cast make the investigation worth following.
- [*How Are You? It's Alan (Partridge)*](https://film.one/tv/how-are-you-its-alan-partridge.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 65 · 28m · Documentary/Comedy
Steve Coogan still makes Alan Partridge worth spending time with, but this mental-health mockumentary leans too heavily on familiar mistakes. The supporting cast and a few sharply observed digressions keep an uneven series going.
- [*Sirens*](https://film.one/tv/sirens.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 75 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Netflix
The three leads make *Sirens* an enjoyable, uneven black comedy, with Meghann Fahy its chief pleasure. The wealthy eccentrics are familiar and the changes of tone can be clumsy, but the sisters’ strained relationship earns our interest.
- [*The Four Seasons*](https://film.one/tv/the-four-seasons.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 64 · TV-MA · Comedy · on Netflix
*The Four Seasons* is a decent, uneven relationship comedy, with Colman Domingo making its holiday company worth joining. There is warmth in the performances, but the writing too often settles for familiar complaints and intermittent laughs.
- [*Just Act Normal*](https://film.one/tv/just-act-normal.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 82 · 40m · Drama/Comedy
The young leads make this family comedy-drama funny and painful without overplaying either. We recommend it for the performances, though its closeness to family distress can make six episodes feel like a demanding evening.
- [*Your Friends & Neighbors*](https://film.one/tv/your-friends-and-neighbors.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 72 · TV-MA · Drama/Crime · on Apple TV
Jon Hamm makes this comedy of suburban wealth and burglary worth following. The ensemble keeps the relationship drama lively, though the commentary on privilege rarely tells us anything we have not heard before.
- [*Dying for Sex*](https://film.one/tv/dying-for-sex.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 81 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Disney+, Hulu
Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate make *Dying for Sex* a funny, tender comedy-drama worth watching. The writing is sometimes too pleased with its frankness, but Molly and Nikki’s friendship gives the terminal-illness story its emotional weight.
- [*The Studio*](https://film.one/tv/the-studio.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 84 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama · on Apple TV
Directors Rogen’s Hollywood farce is funny, tightly performed and sometimes exhausting. The cast make the panic worth enduring, although the programme grows too pleased with its own industry to be quite as ruthless as it first appears.
- [*The Residence*](https://film.one/tv/the-residence.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 62 · TV-MA · Comedy/Crime · on Netflix
Uzo Aduba gives this White House whodunnit a detective worth following. The comedy is less reliable, and eight episodes allow a crowded, lively mystery far too many opportunities to interrupt itself.
- [*Amandaland*](https://film.one/tv/amandaland.md) — 2025 · Fi1m 80 · Comedy · on Amazon Prime Video
Lucy Punch makes *Amandaland* a sharp, funny comedy about a snob trying to remain impressive. Joanna Lumley supplies the cruellest laughs, though the wider ensemble takes more effort to feel like a group.
- [*Nobody Wants This*](https://film.one/tv/nobody-wants-this.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 78 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama · on Netflix
Kristen Bell and Adam Brody make *Nobody Wants This* an easy romantic comedy to enjoy. Their attraction feels convincing, and the supporting cast is funny, but the writing makes too little of the religious differences it puts between them.
- [*Ludwig*](https://film.one/tv/ludwig.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 76 · TV-14 · Mystery/Crime · on Amazon Prime Video, BritBox
David Mitchell has been waiting his whole career for a part this shape, and Mark Brotherhood’s puzzle-setter-turned-detective fits him exactly. The cases are neat and the station is well cast; the brother who vanished in episode one is forgotten for hours at a time.
- [*Fantasmas*](https://film.one/tv/fantasmas.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 84 · TV-MA · 30m · Comedy/Sci-Fi & Fantasy · on HBO Max
Julio Torres turns housing anxiety and bureaucracy into funny, peculiar television. *Fantasmas* gives its sketches more freedom than they always deserve, but the detours are usually worth taking, and the anger beneath them is well placed.
- [*The Regime*](https://film.one/tv/the-regime.md) — 2024 · Fi1m 48 · TV-MA · 50m · Drama/Comedy · on HBO Max
Kate Winslet plays a woman who has decided the country is her bedroom, and the performance is worth seeing. The series around her cannot decide whom it is mocking, and five hours is a long time to wait for it to choose.
- [*Such Brave Girls*](https://film.one/tv/such-brave-girls.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 82 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama · on Hulu
The first series of Kat Sadler’s family comedy is filthy, funny and well worth the discomfort. Its self-absorption occasionally becomes tiring; Louise Brealey’s appalling mother keeps us watching.
- [*The Curse*](https://film.one/tv/the-curse.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 77 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama
Fielder and Safdie’s series about a couple filming a do-gooding property programme is as uncomfortable as television gets, and often brilliant. Its middle episodes circle the same anxieties for longer than they need to, and it asks a good deal of patience.
- [*The Change*](https://film.one/tv/the-change.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 78 · Comedy/Drama · on BritBox
Bridget Christie’s menopause comedy is funny, warm and properly interested in the woman doing the unpaid work. The rural eccentricity occasionally feels overworked, but Christie gives Linda enough stubborn life to make the journey worthwhile.
- [*Platonic*](https://film.one/tv/platonic.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 76 · TV-MA · Comedy · on Apple TV
Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen make *Platonic* worth spending time with, especially when its reunited friends get on each other’s nerves. The broader antics repeat themselves, and the supporting characters cannot quite compete.
- [*Shrinking*](https://film.one/tv/shrinking.md) — 2023 · Fi1m 61 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Apple TV
Harrison Ford’s dry comedy makes *Shrinking* worth trying, despite its hurried treatment of grief. Jason Segel brings vulnerability to a therapist whose broken boundaries deserve more scrutiny than the writing allows.
- [*Colin from Accounts*](https://film.one/tv/colin-from-accounts.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 82 · 30m · Comedy · on Paramount+
Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall make a warm, funny romantic comedy out of two people’s difficulty talking to each other. The coarser jokes sometimes strain, but the leads give us good reason to care.
- [*Wednesday*](https://film.one/tv/wednesday.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 71 · TV-14 · Sci-Fi & Fantasy/Mystery · on Netflix
Jenna Ortega makes *Wednesday* worth the evening, finding real comedy in its heroine’s severity. The supernatural school mystery is less distinctive, but the cast supplies enough warmth and mischief to carry it.
- [*Am I Being Unreasonable?*](https://film.one/tv/am-i-being-unreasonable.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 70 · 30m · Comedy/Drama · on Hulu
Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli make the first series of this uneven comedy-drama worth trying. The darker scenes often persuade, but the mystery sometimes interrupts feelings the performances have made convincing.
- [*Mo*](https://film.one/tv/mo.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 85 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama · on Netflix
Mo Amer’s comedy about a Palestinian refugee in Houston is funny, warm and frank about the strain of waiting to belong. Its loose storytelling occasionally drifts, but the family is worth staying with.
- [*The Rehearsal*](https://film.one/tv/the-rehearsal.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 84 · TV-MA · Comedy/Documentary · on HBO Max
Nathan Fielder’s series about rehearsing life is funny, meticulous and more unsettling than anything else on television, and the copies of rooms are only the start of it. Its one real weakness is that it slowly stops being about anyone but him.
- [*The Bear*](https://film.one/tv/the-bear-2022.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 82 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Hulu
*The Bear* makes the strain of restaurant work worth watching through an unusually persuasive ensemble. We recommend its messy, humane drama, with a warning that the relentless kitchen friction sometimes becomes as exhausting as the job.
- [*Irma Vep*](https://film.one/tv/irma-vep-2022.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 74 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama · on HBO Max
Olivier Assayas remakes his own 1996 film as eight episodes about making eight episodes, and it is looser, funnier and more forgiving than that sounds. Alicia Vikander holds it steady, Lars Eidinger runs off with it, and the middle drifts.
- [*Big Boys*](https://film.one/tv/big-boys.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 81 · 24m · Comedy/Drama · on Hulu
Jack Rooke’s university comedy is funny, tender and particularly good on friendship between young men who seem to have little in common. Its eagerness to reassure can soften the jokes, but Dylan Llewellyn and Jon Pointing earn the affection.
- [*This Is Going to Hurt*](https://film.one/tv/this-is-going-to-hurt.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 84 · Comedy/Drama · on Amazon Prime Video, AMC+
Adam Kay’s adaptation of his own diaries gives Ben Whishaw a junior doctor who is funny to us and unbearable to everyone else, and it earns both. The asides to camera wear thin by the middle; Ambika Mod, as his trainee, is the reason to stay.
- [*Somebody Somewhere*](https://film.one/tv/somebody-somewhere.md) — 2022 · Fi1m 85 · NR · Comedy/Drama · on HBO Max
Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller make a small, foul-mouthed comedy about grief and friendship in a Kansas town, and it is among the best things made for television in years. It is also slow, short and almost entirely without plot, and it means to be.
- [*Abbott Elementary*](https://film.one/tv/abbott-elementary.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 82 · TV-14 · Comedy · on HBO Max, Hulu
Quinta Brunson’s mockumentary sitcom about an underfunded Philadelphia school is quick, warm and better acted than network comedy usually manages. It softens as the seasons pile up, but Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James keep it sharp.
- [*Landscapers*](https://film.one/tv/landscapers.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 78 · TV-MA · Comedy/Crime · on HBO Max
Will Sharpe and Ed Sinclair turn a squalid true murder case into something stranger and kinder than the genre usually allows, and Olivia Colman and David Thewlis are the reason it holds. When it stops to explain what it is doing, it gets colder.
- [*Only Murders in the Building*](https://film.one/tv/only-murders-in-the-building.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 76 · TV-MA · Comedy/Mystery · on Disney+, Hulu
Steve Martin and Martin Short are a double act worth a series on their own, and Selena Gomez, deadpan and watchful, stops them running away with it. The murders matter less than the company, which is mostly a compliment.
- [*Reservation Dogs*](https://film.one/tv/reservation-dogs.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 86 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Hulu
Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi’s comedy about four Oklahoma teenagers stealing their way towards a new life is funny, patient and quietly heavy with grief. The spirit-world detours do not always land, and later seasons scatter the gang, but we would recommend it to almost anyone.
- [*The White Lotus*](https://film.one/tv/the-white-lotus.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 85 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama · on HBO Max
Mike White’s resort satire is funny, cruel and unexpectedly tender towards people who make tenderness difficult. The first season’s guests get more attention than its workers, but Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge make the imbalance worth tolerating.
- [*We Are Lady Parts*](https://film.one/tv/we-are-lady-parts.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 80 · Comedy · on Peacock
Nida Manzoor’s sitcom about an all-female Muslim punk band is quick, rude and warm, with songs that stick and a lead performance from Anjana Vasan that carries six episodes without strain. The men are thin and the plot predictable, and it barely matters.
- [*Hacks*](https://film.one/tv/hacks.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 83 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama · on HBO Max
*Hacks* is a funny, sometimes moving comedy about two women who make a difficult job harder for each other. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are excellent together, though the writing sometimes presses their generational differences too hard.
- [*Starstruck*](https://film.one/tv/starstruck.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 79 · TV-MA · 22m · Comedy · on HBO Max
Rose Matafeo’s half-hour comedy takes the oldest romcom daydream, the ordinary person and the star, and plays it for embarrassment rather than glamour. It is quick, kind and funny, and slight in ways it mostly manages to turn into virtues.
- [*Dreaming Whilst Black*](https://film.one/tv/dreaming-whilst-black.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 81 · TV-MA · Comedy/Drama
Adjani Salmon gives *Dreaming Whilst Black* a warmth that survives its sharpest jokes about prejudice and ambition. Some film-industry targets are familiar, but the cast and the romance make this a comedy worth spending time with.
- [*It's a Sin*](https://film.one/tv/its-a-sin.md) — 2021 · Fi1m 84 · TV-MA · 48m · Comedy/Drama · on HBO Max
Russell T Davies’s five-part drama about a flat of young gay men in eighties London is the warmest and, for three episodes, the most controlled writing he has done. The last two reach for speeches the story had already made; the cast carry them anyway.
- [*Ted Lasso*](https://film.one/tv/ted-lasso.md) — 2020 · Fi1m 78 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Apple TV
*Ted Lasso* is a warm, well-played sports comedy with an uneven supply of jokes. Jason Sudeikis and a responsive ensemble make it worth the patience, though the cultural clashes can feel laboured.
- [*The Great*](https://film.one/tv/the-great.md) — 2020 · Fi1m 74 · TV-MA · Drama/Comedy · on Hulu
Tony McNamara’s court comedy gives Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult the filthiest, funniest lines on television and a coup to plot between them. It is a pleasure an hour at a time and a slog at ten; ration it.
- [*Betty*](https://film.one/tv/betty.md) — 2020 · Fi1m 74 · TV-MA · 30m · Comedy/Drama · on HBO Max
Crystal Moselle takes the skaters of *Skate Kitchen* and gives them twelve half-hours to roll around New York in. Little happens and it is a pleasure; the series is warmest when it stops trying to have plots.
- [*Dickinson*](https://film.one/tv/dickinson.md) — 2019 · Fi1m 68 · TV-14 · Comedy/Drama · on Apple TV
Alena Smith’s comedy gives Emily Dickinson modern slang, a pop soundtrack and a carriage ride with Death, and the slang wears thin long before the poems do. Stay for Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Hunt, who play the love story straight and make the rest worth the effort.
- [*Ghosts*](https://film.one/tv/ghosts.md) — 2019 · Fi1m 80 · TV-14 · Comedy/Sci-Fi & Fantasy · on Paramount+
The Horrible Histories team’s haunted-house sitcom is gentle, quick and far better built than its silliness suggests, played by an ensemble who have been making each other laugh for years. The hotel plot goes nowhere, and it hardly matters.
