Biography
Carole Fritz is a French archaeologist and prehistorian specialising in Palaeolithic art. She is director of research at the CNRS and leads the scientific team at the Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc Cave in the Ardèche, a position she has held since 2018. She is also responsible for the Centre de recherche et d’études de l’art préhistorique Émile-Cartailhac at the Maison des sciences de l’homme in Toulouse.
Fritz appears as herself in the 2010 documentary Cave of Forgotten Dreams, directed by Werner Herzog, in which she discusses the cave’s prehistoric paintings. She has contributed to other documentaries and television programmes on prehistoric art and has authored a book on the Chauvet Cave.
