Using the site
Fi1m is free to read. You can use it for anything personal and non-commercial: deciding what to watch, arguing about films, sending a page to a friend. You may not scrape it, copy it in bulk, republish it, or use it to train a machine-learning model without a licence from us; the API exists for exactly that, and the free tier is generous. You may quote us briefly with a link, as you would any publication.
Don't do anything that damages the site or gets in other people's way: probing for weaknesses, flooding it with requests, impersonating us, or using automated tools to rate or review.
Accounts
You need to be 16 or over to have an account. Give us a real email address, keep your password to yourself, and tell us at help@film.one if you think someone else has got into it. You're responsible for what happens under your account until you do. One account each.
You can delete your account at any time from Account. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms; we'll tell you why, and you can appeal to the editor.
What you post
Ratings, reviews, collection titles and notes are yours. You keep the copyright. By posting, you give us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to show them on Fi1m and in the API, in the form you posted them, attributed to your display name, for as long as they're published; delete them and the licence ends, except for copies already in backups, which clear within 90 days.
What you post must be your own, must not break the law or anyone's rights, and must follow the house rules, which are short:
- No spoilers outside the marked spoiler section. Ever.
- Write about the film, not about other members. No abuse, harassment, or hate directed at anyone, on screen or off.
- No undisclosed promotion. If you worked on the film, say so.
- No spam, no links to piracy, no copying other people's reviews.
Reviews are checked before they appear (how). We can decline to publish or take down anything that breaks these rules, and we'll tell you if we do. Repeatedly breaking them closes the account. We don't edit your words; if something needs changing, we'll ask you to change it.
Membership
Membership costs the price shown when you join, billed monthly or yearly through Stripe, and renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time from Account; you keep the benefits until the end of the period you've paid for, and we don't charge again. If you cancel within 14 days of first joining we refund you in full, no questions, and beyond that we refund pro rata if the service has been unavailable for more than a day in a month. If we change the price, we'll email you at least 30 days before it affects you, and you can cancel before it does.
Discover limits (three questions a day without an account, twenty a week with a free one, unlimited for members) are there to keep the service running well for everyone. "Unlimited" means for a person using it as a person; if a member account is being used as an API, we'll get in touch.
What's ours
Fi1m's reviews, scores, synopses, features, the design of the site, the Fi1m name and mark, and the compiled database of titles, credits and availability are the property of Fi1m Ltd or its licensors. Posters, stills and trailers belong to their rights holders and appear here under licence or as press material for the purpose of criticism and review; they are not ours to give you, so please don't take them from here. Critics' quotations belong to the publications that printed them and are linked to their source.
If you own the rights to something on Fi1m and don't think we should be using it, write to rights@film.one. We take it down within one working day while we look.
The API
Programmatic access to Fi1m's reviews, scores and availability data is through the Fi1m API, under its own terms, which include a free tier for non-commercial use with attribution and paid tiers for the rest. Details at api@film.one. Access to the site by any other automated means is not permitted.
Accuracy
We take a lot of trouble over accuracy, and we say publicly how (How we rate, How we use AI, Corrections). Even so: streaming availability and prices change daily and are correct as of the time shown on the page; running times, certificates and release dates come from third-party sources and can be wrong; reviews are opinions, and our opinion of a film is not a promise that you'll like it. Check the retailer's price before you pay it. Tell us if something's wrong and we'll fix it.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer under UK law, or our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or anything else the law says can't be limited. Beyond that, Fi1m is a free publication and a small paid one, and our liability to you for anything arising from your use of it is limited to whatever you've paid us in the twelve months before the thing you're complaining about. We're not liable for losses that are indirect or that neither of us could have foreseen, and we're not responsible for other people's sites, including the retailers we link to.
Law and changes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute, though if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can use your local courts too. If we change the terms in a way that matters we'll email account holders at least 14 days before it takes effect and note it on the corrections page; if you carry on using the site after that, the new terms apply. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
