Biography
Michael Gates is a Canadian historian and author. He worked as curator for Parks Canada in Dawson City, Yukon, and was directly involved in the 1978 discovery of the Dawson Film Find, a large collection of early nitrate films unearthed during construction work.
Gates has researched and written extensively on the Klondike Gold Rush era and the history of film in the region. He appears as himself in the documentary Dawson City: Frozen Time (2016), on which he also served as a researcher, and has published the book Hollywood in the Klondike: Dawson City’s Great Film Find.
