Biography
Nicholas J. Conard is a US-German prehistoric archaeologist. He has held the chair in Early Prehistory and Quaternary Ecology at the University of Tübingen since 1995 and serves as scientific director of the Urgeschichtliches Museum Blaubeuren.
Conard trained at the University of Rochester, the University of Cologne and Yale University, where he received his PhD in 1990. His excavations on the Swabian Alb have yielded some of the oldest known figurative art, including the Venus of Hohle Fels.
He appeared as himself in the 2010 documentary Cave of Forgotten Dreams, directed by Werner Herzog, discussing archaeological work at the Chauvet Cave.
