Most critics regard Spider-Man 2 as an improvement on its predecessor, praising the balance between energetic action and Peter Parker’s personal difficulties. Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus draws repeated approval, both for the performance and for the character’s complexity. Raimi’s handling of the confrontations is another shared strength: the favourable reviews find room for comedy and tenderness alongside the spectacle. Praise also extends to Tobey Maguire and the warmth and wit of the romance with Kirsten Dunst.

The available verdicts range widely, though enthusiasm predominates. Eye for Film provides the clearest dissent, finding the film overlong and dull, its underdeveloped story burdened by repetitive angst, while still admiring Molina and the action choreography. The disagreement centres on whether Peter’s troubles give the action emotional weight or simply slow things down. Two reviews lack accessible verdicts, so their specific reservations cannot be characterised.
