Biography
Aída Bortnik was an Argentine screenwriter and playwright. She began her career as a television screenwriter in 1971 and co-wrote the screenplay for The Truce (1974) with Sergio Renán, the first Argentine film nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
In 1985 she co-wrote The Official Story with director Luis Puenzo. The film won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and earned Bortnik a nomination for Best Original Screenplay. She also contributed to the screenplays for Old Gringo (1989), Wild Tango (1993), Wild Horses (1995) and Ashes of Paradise (1997).
Bortnik wrote for theatre and journalism as well. She was the first Latin American to become a permanent member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
