Biography
Al Ruban is an American cinematographer, producer and editor. He began working in film with director John Cassavetes on Shadows (1959) as a camera operator and later edited Faces (1968).
Ruban served as producer, cinematographer and actor on several Cassavetes films, including A Woman Under the Influence (1974) and The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976), on which he also played the role of Marty Reitz. He contributed to Opening Night (1977) as producer and cinematographer, and worked on later Cassavetes projects such as Love Streams (1984). He established Faces Distribution to handle the release of several of the director’s independent films.
