Biography
Alexa Karolinski is a German writer, director and producer. She co-created, co-wrote and produced the Netflix miniseries Unorthodox (2020) with Anna Winger.
She holds an MFA in Social Documentary Film from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her thesis film Oma & Bella (2012), a documentary about her grandmother and her grandmother’s friend, both Holocaust survivors, premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and won the Grimme Prize. Other credits include the documentary Signs of Life (2018) and various music videos and short films.
Karolinski was born in 1984 in West Berlin to a Canadian mother and German father, and grew up in the city’s Jewish community. She lives between Berlin and Los Angeles.
