Biography
Alfred Edel was a German actor. Born on 12 March 1932 in Abensberg, he studied sociology, philosophy, history and theatre studies before being cast by Alexander Kluge in the 1965 film Abschied von gestern. He became a frequent performer in New German Cinema, appearing in supporting roles for directors including Werner Herzog, Hans-Jürgen Syberberg and Christoph Schlingensief.
Edel played the professor of logic in Herzog’s The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974) and the prison warden in Stroszek (1977). He also appeared as a journalist in Supermarket (1974). Later credits include 100 Years of Adolf Hitler (1989) and several films with Schlingensief. He died on 17 June 1993 in Frankfurt am Main.
