Biography
Allan Jones (born Theodore Allen Jones) was an American actor and tenor. He appeared as Ricardo Baroni in the Marx Brothers film A Night at the Opera (1935) and as Gil Stewart in their follow-up A Day at the Races (1937). He also played Gaylord Ravenal in the 1936 film version of Show Boat.
Jones trained in music and performed on Broadway before signing with MGM. He later worked in other musicals including The Firefly (1937), appeared in stage productions such as touring companies of Guys and Dolls and Man of La Mancha, and performed in nightclubs. He was married to actress Irene Hervey; their son is the singer Jack Jones.
